Giveaway: Bon Appetit! The Delicious Life of Julia Child

Today, Julia Child would have celebrated her 100th Birthday! Author, Jessie Hartland, has just released this timely biography called Bon Appetit!  The Delicious Life of Julia Child which is a great tribute to Julia’s life. Don’t you love the cover?!

This book celebrates Julia’s life with humorous illustrations and handwritten text.

I learned a lot about Julia from reading this cute book.  Did you know that she was quite the prankster?!  She really led an interesting life too. I don’t want to give it all away, but she lived in some amazing places before she had her cooking show.  Speaking of her cooking show, it was taped in nearby Boston. I watched it on PBS on the weekends with my mom when I was growing up.

I found this video of Julia Child.  I love it!  She was truly unique and entertaining.  Check it out!

I have read how some people find this book “too busy” or “too hard to read.”  I have to say, there are some busy pages where I wasn’t sure of the order in which to read down the page.  However, the book is so interesting and the illustrations are so humerous, that it didn’t bother me.  Once I started reading the book, I couldn’t put it down. I can see why Julia Child is such a popular icon.  I can totally relate to her enthusiasm about food.  If you are a fan of Julia Child or have a young chef in the family, this would be a great book for both of you.

Even though a lot of her recipes center around meet, her “can do” attitude inspires me when creating vegan dishes.

    Gina Hubbell says:

I grew up watching her — my mom loved her and my dad loved the food that Julia helped my mom create. She was one of a kind, I have since passed my love of Julia’s cooking on to my 13 year old who herself has become quite the chef! Now I have another daughter that sits on my hip and watches everything I do - she especially enjoys the omelette making all the shaking and noise makes her laugh! To me Julia is not just a pioneer she is what all TV chefs strive to be and continue to fall short of — fearlessly graceful!
